Whiskeys recognised at International Spirits Challenge 2020

Drinksology Kirker Greer has picked up silver medals for its Bowsaw Straight Corn American Whiskey (American Whiskey) and Kirker Shamrock (Irish Whiskey) at the prestigious International Spirits Challenge 2020.

Bowsaw Straight Corn Whiskey is distilled and matured in northern Kentucky on the banks of the Ohio River and has an unusual mash bill comprising 91% corn, 5% barley and 4% rye.

The resulting whiskey is aged between four and five years in refill charred American oak barrels and bottled at 43% for extra power on the palate and cut through in mixed drinks.

The result is a unique flavour profile rich in robust corn sugars, with undertones of mellow barley and a dry rye spice finish. The unique hand-finished bottle complements the whiskey’s sense of craft and character.

Kirker & Greer Shamrock Irish Whiskey is an 80/20 blend of carefully curated single grain and triple distilled single malt whiskeys from the province of Leinster.

It is matured exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 43% for extra presence in mixed drinks and cocktails. The resulting liquid has beautifully balanced notes of caramel and honey married with vanilla oak and hints of peppery spice.

“We are delighted our whiskey brands have won such prestigious awards,” said Steven Pattison, CEO of Drinksology Kirker Greer. “The winners are established through a rigorous judging process of more than fifty respected industry professionals, so to win two more Silver medals is a true testament to the great brands we have developed to the highest quality.”

Justin Smith, awards organiser, ISC, said: “The International Spirits Challenge only awards medals to outstanding spirits that impress a broad panel of industry experts in a blind tasting process. The competition is now in its 25th year and it is firmly established as the ultimate benchmark for global producers that want to gauge the quality of their spirits.

“A record number of entries flooded in from across the world this year. Only the best expressions gained medals, so we must offer our sincere congratulations to the hardworking teams that produced such highly-rated spirits.”

Last month, Drinksology Kirker Greer was also awarded a silver medal for its Ginato Clementino Gin at the International Spirits Challenge.
