Lough Erne Resort has announced a new charity partnership with Horizon West Children’s Hospice, part of the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice which is located in Killadeas, County Fermanagh.

Staff at the five-star resort will work to raise crucial funds to support the local charity, which is the only dedicated palliative care service in the province and the only organisation that can offer high level support to children with life-limited illnesses and very complex needs who require 24-hour specialist care.

Every year, NI Children’s Hospice cares for around 300 children and young people, and their families living in Northern Ireland who need care that only the Children’s Hospice can provide. Care is provided in the child’s own home and in facilities in Newtownabbey and Killadeas in County Fermanagh.

Horizon West Children’s Hospice currently supports around 30 children in the Fermanagh and Tyrone area as well as their siblings, parents and grandparents.

Lough Erne General Manager, William Kirby, says the team at the Hotel are planning a series of fund raising initiatives which they hope will help make a difference to local families whose children require the services of the hospice.

“Lough Erne Resort has a proud history of supporting local charities and has helped raise significant funds in its ten-year history. We look forward to continuing these efforts through our new relationship with Horizon West which plays such an important role supporting families in the Fermanagh area.”

Heather Gott, Community Fundraiser for Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, welcomed Lough Erne as the new charity partner of Horizon West.

“We are very excited to be working with Lough Erne Resort, and look forward to working together to help raise vital funds. The charity relies strongly on the generosity of partnerships such as this to raise £2.5 million of the £3 million needed to keep the service going. The money we raise through this link with Lough Erne Resort will fund the essential Children’s Hospice nurses who provide very special care and support for local children and their families.”

Horizon West Children’s Hospice provides respite facilities for children and families, End of Life Care, Music therapy session, monthly drop in coffee mornings for parents, sibling support activities and bereavement support for children, young people and families.
