Belfast-XmasMarket2013-253

In this Year of Food and Drink 2016, the Belfast Christmas Market 2016 will have a new and exciting opportunity to promote even more local produce with the addition of fifteen new chalets outside City Hall gates, in a prime position on Donegall Square North. These chalets will be specifically allocated to showcase not only local food but unique crafts too.

Market Place Managing Director Allan Hartwell said:

“We’re considering a whole range of innovations for the Belfast Christmas Market for 2016, and are really excited to explore what can be done, all within the unique challenges of the city hall space of course and managing over a million visitors through the gates.”

Throughout the many years that Market Place has been working in Belfast, we have developed strong local relationships with tourism organisations and everyone involved in the construction of and service suppliers to the operation of the 5week market all of whom are local businesses,. In addition 35% of traders at the Christmas are local, and the visiting market traders purchase a high percentage of their goods from local producers and suppliers. The gross economic impact for the City of Belfast from the Christmas Market in 2014 measured £56m.

In this Year of Food and Drink 2016, we are delighted to be able to offer additional opportunities to local traders with the addition of these new chalets, as well as continuing to support new businesses through our Pitch Perfect sponsorship scheme.

This is a new chapter for us and we can’t wait to turn this next page.”
