Otherkin to open Tennent’s Vital
Tennent’s Lager and MCD have confirmed an added bonus act for the bill on Thursday 25th August at Belfast’s Boucher Road Playing fields. Otherkin, the much talked about new band from Dublin, will have the honour of opening Day 1 of Tennent’s Vital, headlined by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Luke Reilly (vocals, guitar), Conor Wynne (lead guitar), David Anthony (bass guitar), and Rob Summons (drums) make up Otherkin, and they have been making quite a name for themselves with huge riffs and even huger choruses. The band’s music is best summarised as grunge pop, and the band says it themselves; “We want our records to be punchy, lean and blazing. Straight in, no kissing.”
Brought together by a shared love of bands such as The Clash, QOTSA, Ramones and Blur, the band formed at the end of 2013. They quickly earned themselves regular shows on the live venue circuit of Dublin, which opened the door to 2014’s Irish festival scene.
In early 2015, after a couple of hand-made, self-realised tracks, ‘Ay Ay’ was their lively single that caught the attention of Rubyworks, a leading Irish indie label. A release of an EP featuring ‘Ay Ay’ and ‘Feel It’ then followed to coincide with their UK festival debut at Leeds / Reading and their first full-length UK tour.
This year, they released ‘I Was Born’ in February, the first track from their second EP and it quickly earned 100,000 listens on Soundcloud. In follow up to this heavyweight thumper, ‘Yeah, I Know’, was then released in May 2016, just ahead of the June release of their latest EP ‘The New Vice.’
