The Northern Ireland Hospice and Diageo NI came together today to celebrate a charity partnership that has raised funds of over £80,000.

Employees from across Diageo’s three sites in Northern Ireland including the corporate headquarters in Belfast City Centre, the global Baileys facility at Mallusk and a bottling and packaging plant in East Belfast have worked together for six years pledging corporate support and raising much needed funds for the company’s chosen charity partner.

Named Northern Ireland’s Responsible Company of the Year 2016 by Business in the Community, Diageo has been involved in a range of fundraising activities including a mock break-out at Crumlin Road Gaol, the NI Hospice Shop Challenge, Capital House Cake Off, abseils, pool nights, quiz nights, mud runs…and much more.

However, special mention must go the company’s most recent fundraising effort – Dancing with Diageo.  Held in the Clayton Hotel, Belfast in April 2016 and hosted by Pamela Ballantine, eight couples from Diageo took to the floor to quickstep their way through the tango, salsa, jive and waltz. With friends, family and work colleagues also lending their support, Dancing with Diageo raised an amazing £25,000 for the NI Hospice’s Capital Appeal.

Jorge Lopes, Country Director at Diageo NI, said;

“As a company, we made a commitment six years ago to focus our charity efforts on both raising funds and lending support to the NI Hospice.  Not only have we enjoyed every minute, but we also feel a huge sense of pride knowing that we have truly made a difference to this exceptional local charity.  We are particularly pleased that the £25,000 fundraised through ‘Dancing with Diageo’ has directly supported the complete kit out of one of the en-suite bedrooms in the new £13m Hospice facility at Somerton House.  On behalf of all employees at Diageo NI, thank you to everyone who has played their part.”

Thanking the Diageo team, Ellen Hillen, Corporate Fundraising Manager from NI Hospice said;

“Diageo embraced the true meaning of a charity partnership that went beyond fundraising activities.  Staff shared their business knowledge and experience with the Hospice team helping them improve their presentation and sales skills; they volunteered their time to help refurbish Hospice shops and gardens and wholeheartedly engaged in activities with NI Hospice.  We are so grateful for the valued support of Diageo and the contribution they have made to NI Hospice.”
