Tourism Ireland has welcomed the figures for overseas visitors to Northern Ireland for 2015, issued by NISRA today. The figures confirm that we welcomed almost 2 million overseas visitors last year, up +10% on 2014. Holiday visitors accounted for almost 544,000 overseas visitors (+10%); and, more importantly for the economy, revenue from overseas visitors to Northern Ireland grew by +8% during the year (£484 million).

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Figures published by NISRA today confirm that overseas visitors to Northern Ireland increased by +10% in 2015. Visitor numbers from GB increased by +10%, from Mainland Europe by +17%, from North America by +1% and from the rest of the world by +6%. Overseas holidaymakers increased by +10%, with particularly strong growth in GB (+18%) and Mainland European (+12%) holidaymakers. Overseas visitors delivered almost £484 million for the local economy, up +8% on 2014.

Tourism Ireland is determined to ensure that tourism growth continues and we are rolling out an extensive programme of promotions throughout 2016, to highlight Northern Ireland around the world. Our activity includes a major focus on this special Year of Food and Drink. And, once again, we have joined forces with Game of Thrones creators HBO this spring, leveraging the huge popularity of the TV series to showcase Northern Ireland. We are also highlighting The Gobbins Cliff Path, while continuing to place a major focus on other iconic experiences like Titanic Belfast, the Giant’s Causeway and our unique National Trust properties. We continue to target people of Ulster-Scots descent; and to promote Northern Ireland as a top golf and business tourism destination.”
