Hospitality Industry set for a flamin’ great night for charity

The grills will be set alight this summer when the hospitality industry downs its tools for an annual summer BBQ. Belfast’s The Dirty Onion is set to welcome over 300 chefs, waiters and bar staff from across Northern Ireland on Monday 6th June for the BBQ supported by a number of suppliers, offering an opportunity for the trade to take a night off and network while raising money for two charitable causes.

This year the event will support Northern Ireland’s leading palliative care charity, Marie Curie and Miles for Matty, set up in memory of Hasting’s Europa Hotel employee Matthew Drumm who passed away in December 2013.

A number of leading industry suppliers will be providing their products and services pro bono to assist with fundraising including Dillon Bass, The Dirty Onion, Henderson Foodservice, Molson Coors, Tennent’s NI and Woodford Bourne Wines, with assistance from Love PR.

Nichola Daly, committee member and creator of this event, said: “Due to the success of this event previously, I have been inundated with requests from suppliers and industry staff for another BBQ. Along with a committee of industry representatives, we have joined forces to work on organising a fun summer event for good causes. Hospitality employees are only too often viewed as the key to many others having a good night; now it’s their turn to relax and enjoy a night in the company of industry peers.”

The charismatic Europa Hotel manager and BBC Lobby Lives star James McGinn will host the BBQ and co-ordinate the raffle.  Speaking about the event and his close link to the Miles for Matty charity James said, “Matthew was not just my relative, he was a truly valued member of our team, who is still so very missed by many of the hotel staff and customers.  His tragic death however, has meant life for others as having joined the organ donor register; Matthew’s heart, kidneys, lungs, pancreas and liver were all donated to others.  We are delighted that our fundraising efforts will help assist Northern Ireland Transplant’s great work.”

Admission to the event is by ticket only with tickets only available to be purchased online. Priced at £20 each ticket gains admission, a stunning BBQ and two complimentary drinks plus entertainment.  To purchase click here!   Prizes to be raffled on the night are currently being accepted through the Facebook event page.
