The world’s most famous cognac brand has joined forces with Belfast’s iconic Merchant Hotel to host a very special event next week to celebrate 250 years of Hennessy.

The exclusive Hennessy 250 dinner, which takes place in the sumptuous surround of The Merchant’s Great Room Restaurant on Thursday 1st October, has been created by drinks company, Dillon Bass -owners of the Hennessy brand in Northern Ireland in conjunction with the 5 star hotel’s leading chefs.

The special event is one of just a handful of exclusive Hennessy 250 dinners that are taking place around the world to mark the global anniversary celebrations.

The decadent seven-course menu will take diners on an enriching culinary journey through the last 250 years of Hennessy. The menu has been inspired by and will be paired with Hennessy Cognacs, telling a rich tale of heritage and celebrating the legacy of the iconic cognac brand.

Guests attending the dinner will also have the relished opportunity to taste the Hennessy 250 Collector Blend. Thanks to NI drinks company, Dillon Bass, the first bottle of the coveted limited edition Hennessy 250 Collector Blend arrived at The Merchant earlier this year as part of the local celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the brand. The decanter style bottle is one of a limited number of bottles that have been released in Northern Ireland.

This distinctive cognac is the product of an exceptional blending and aging process. An expertly assembled blend of eaux-de-vie, which is aged for 15-35 years and selected to achieve a harmony between power, vivacity and elegance, the celebratory bottles are set to be popular collectors’ items.

The blend completed its aging in ideal conditions: resting in 250 specially crafted barrels of 250 litres each, carefully stored at ground level near the banks of the river Charente. The distinctive cognac features a spicy aroma, including opening notes of bitter orange, peppermint and saffron, and a sweet and honey-like finish.

Commenting on the Hennessy 250 Celebratory Gala Dinner, Joanne O’Hagan, marketing manager, Dillon Bass said: “As we celebrate 250 years of Hennessy, we are proud to partner with The Merchant Hotel to create this exclusive culinary experience, which will bring the Hennessy 250 celebrations to life here in Northern Ireland and give local people a chance to enjoy exquisite world-class food and fine cognac in the most opulent of surroundings in the heart of Belfast.

“The exquisite menus created by the chefs at The Merchant’s Great Room embody the spirit and rich heritage of Hennessy and pair perfectly with our matched cognacs and in particular, the Hennessy 250 Collector Blend, which will have a starring role in this celebratory event.”

Johnny Leake, head chef at The Merchant’s Great Room Restaurant, added: “We are thrilled to partner with Dillon Bass to create this exciting menu to celebrate the global Hennessy 250 celebrations in Northern Ireland.

“Our menu draws its inspiration from the rich heritage of Hennessy and will take diners on a culinary journey with a French-inspired seven course fine dining menu that perfectly complements the paired Hennessy cognacs. This special menu offers people the opportunity to enjoy a truly unique and exclusive dining experience, the style of which is seldom available here in Northern Ireland.”
