Those travelling through Belfast International today got the opportunity to experience the ‘Magic of Mela’ – giving them a taste of what is to come in the festival which takes place in Botanic Gardens on August 30.

This is the first time the airport has been involved with the Belfast Mela and a ‘flash-mob’ visit by Bollywood and Chinese Lion Dancers gave the airport’s customers a flavour of the Mela.

Nisha Tandon, ArtsEkta director said: “We are delighted to welcome Belfast International Airport on board as sponsor of the Mela for the first time. ArtsEkta is committed to sparking relationships between culture and commerce and this latest creative partnership with the airport is very exciting for the organisation.

“Our 2015 programme for Mela is as varied and vibrant as ever combining cutting edge international performance and new commissions with the spirit of local talent and artists.

“Staged across Botanic Gardens the jewel in Belfast¹s crown – audiences will be treated to a blend of sensations, sounds and smells. And with over 30,000 people expected the Mela has firmly taken its place as one of the region’s flagship home grown tourism events.”

BIA Business Development Director Uel Hoey watched the display and commented: “Passengers were a bit taken aback at first but soon the ‘Magic of Mela’ took over and everyone was joining in – or trying to.

“The diversity of the Mela reflects the diversity of those who live in Northern Ireland, the people who travel with us and the destinations they travel to – and we are delighted to be able to bring a flavour of this multi-cultural event to those travelling through the airport.”

Belfast Mela takes place in Botanic Gardens on August 30, 2-6pm. For more information visit: http://www.artsekta.org.uk/
