Review of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board & Wider Tourism Structures
Commenting on today’s announcement NITB Chairman Howard Hastings, OBE, said;
“The Northern Ireland Tourist Board believes the review has been an excellent opportunity to help set the course for a sustainable, high performing tourism industry. This is what is urgently required by our economy in the years ahead”.
“We are pleased that today’s statement recognises the impressive progress made by tourism, and the important role played by NITB in growing visitor numbers and revenue, and recommends that NITB should be further strengthened and lead the way on implementing the review”.
Mr Hastings continued;
“We particularly welcome the minister’s commitment that her department will provide leadership in the form of a Tourism Strategy that will set the strategic direction for the tourism industry. We also welcome recommendations to work more closely with Invest NI to further develop the work that is already underway on developing a joint economic brand, and we look forward to working more closely with the new Councils given their increased powers and responsibilities for economic and community planning.”
“The minister has confirmed that NITB will change its name to Tourism Northern Ireland. This change recognises how far we have come in recent years and will provide a new and dynamic springboard from which to move forward.”
“A new NITB Chairman and Chief Executive will shortly be appointed and together they will shape the outcome of the review. I am confident that as my time as NITB chairman concludes, and I prepare to hand over the reins, the prospects for tourism here have never looked better.”
