Lisburn Restaurant Week – the first event of its kind to be held outside Belfast – was launched today. The culinary celebration takes place at eateries throughout the City area from June 16-22.

The launch event, which was attended by civic dignitaries, restaurateurs, sponsors and business representatives, was held at the Island Civic Centre with guests welcomed by the Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton.

“Lisburn City is a thriving, bustling area, but we need to do even more to showcase our day and night-time dining attractions,” said Cllr Tolerton.  “Lisburn Restaurant Week will give diners an opportunity to sample local hospitality at its very best, garnished with great money-saving and value-added offers.

“Restaurateurs, funders, sponsors and local suppliers are working together to deliver a varied and entertaining week and I am delighted to report that there will be something for every pocket, every taste and every age.”

Dozens of restaurants, bistros, pubs and cafes are expected to take part in the week-long festival of food and fun for all the family, which is set to become an annual event, supported by Lisburn City Council and Lisburn City Centre Management.

Planned activities include Meet the Chef sessions, cookery demos, themed nights, live music and entertainment, wine-tasting, family nights, charity events, cocktail demos, comedy hours, live auctions and DIY dishes.

Getting launch guests into the mood for Lisburn Restaurant Week were three talented young chefs who volunteered for a fun Cook-off Challenge, hosted by the LRW 2014 Ambassador, celebrity chef Derek Patterson of The Plough, Hillsborough.

Alderman Allan Ewart, Chair of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, said: “Everyone knows Lisburn is great for shopping – now, through Lisburn Restaurant Week, we have the opportunity to tell people about our great range of fine dining and informal eateries.

“The ultimate aim, of course, is to grow the local economy by enabling businesses in the hospitality sector, from Moira and Glenavy to Hillsborough and Dromara, to reach out to new customers, increase visitor footfall and boost dining spend.”

Promotional Events taking place throughout Lisburn Restaurant Week include:
