The clock is ticking for pubs to be in with a chance of being crowned the best bar in Northern Ireland, as the closing date for Pubs of Ulster’s Pub of the Year Awards fast approaches.

Pubs of Ulster, the representative body for the licensed trade in Northern Ireland, is calling on pubs right across Northern Ireland to make sure they are in the running for one of its top industry awards, before entries close on Thursday, 12th September 2013.  For the first time, all entries for this year’s awards can be completed and submitted online at www.nipuboftheyear.com; making it easier than ever for pubs to get involved and be in with a chance of being the toast of the trade.

To be a great pub means more than serving a great pint and to reflect the variety of elements that come together to make a brilliant bar, this year’s awards have a host of new categories, each designed to highlight the very best that the industry has to offer.  This year’s award categories are:

  • Best Entertainment
  • Best Food
  • Best New or Improved
  •  Best Marketing Initiative
  • Best Charity Initiative
  • Best Big Idea
  • Pub of the Year 2013

Commenting on this year’s awards, Chairman of Pubs of Ulster, Mark Stewart said:

“Over the last number of years the Pub of the Year Awards have gone from strength to strength and today, they are the only recognised awards that celebrate our industry.  “The awards are our chance to recognise those pubs that make our industry famous across the world.  From food, entertainment and the staggering charity work that takes place across pubs every year, to the innovative ideas that see our local pubs raising standards across the hospitality industry; our awards recognise and reward all the elements that make our pubs great.

“We’ve seen a great response from the trade since this year’s new look Pub of the Year Awards were launched and as the closing date for entries approaches, I would encourage those pubs that haven’t entered yet to do so before Thursday, as they could well be Pub of the Year 2013.”

As well as new categories and new online entry process, this year’s awards will also see another exciting change as the Pub of the Year Gala Awards night moves to the 4* La Mon Hotel and Country Club.  On the 13th November this year, hundreds of licensees from across Northern Ireland will gather to toast the trade and find out who will be crowned the 2013 Pub of the Year.

The Pub of the Year Awards are the only industry recognised awards and are proudly sponsored by the Belfast Distillery Company, Britvic, Coca-Cola, Diageo, Dillon Bass, Heineken Northern Ireland, Molson Coors, Richmond Marketing, Tennent’s NI and Drinks Inc.  The awards are also supported by the Sunday Life, Hospitality Review and U105.
